Piccoli Lotti - Adelaide Hills Arneis 2016

Region - Adelaide Hills, South Australia

Vineyard - The fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in the cool foothills of the Kuitpo Ranges in the southern most region of the Adelaide Hills. This vineyard provides both cool days and temperate nights which are ideal for the slow ripening of Arneis.

Arneis originated from the Piedmont region in North Western Italy. The name Arneis when translated means little rascal because it is regarded as a difficult variety to grow.

Growing Conditions – The 2016 vintage was around two weeks earlier than historical records, heat waves and rain events threatened the vintage early on but a cool February enabled the vines to come back into balance and produce excellent fruit quality.

Winemaking – The fruit was harvested in the cool of night to retain freshness and fruit integrity. The grapes were destemmed and pressed cold in a pneumatic bag press. The juice was then racked and lees stirred for 3 months to help build texture and mid palate weight. This wine remained unoaked and has been bottled young and fresh to help retain its youthful vibrancy

Winemakers Tasting Notes – By using a combination of old and new world winemaking techniques, we have captured the essence of this wonderful variety. This wine opens with aromas of almonds, pistachios, marzipan, sage and hints of rose water and orange peel. The palate is textured, has soft acidity and phenolic structure. Flavours of pistachio and mandarin linger on the finish.

Analysis - pH 3.45 | Alc. 14% | TA4.3g/l
