Mount Lofty Ranges Montepulciano 2017

27.00

Region - One Tree Hill, Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia

 Vineyard
This fruit was supplied from a well known vineyard located on Spring Farm Road, just to the east of Clare township. Relatively young vines necessitated the old-world practice of hand picking.

Growing Conditions
The 2017 vintage was shaped by heavy spring rains which set the vines up with big canopies and big crops. The wet spring also delayed berry development which ultimately led to a late vintage. The lateness of vintage culminated in fruit ripening in cooler conditions, more delicate flavour profiles and structure.

Winemaking
The supply of hand-picked fruit opened up the possibility of whole bunch fermentation.  This approach gives the wine quite a different profile especially on the palate due to the extraction of tannins from the stalks. After pressing at dryness, the wine was transferred to French oak hogsheads for malolactic fermentation and maturation, where it was racked only once before bottling in February 2018. .

Winemaking Notes
Mid cherry red colour. Aromas of cherry compote and rhubarb. Vanilla and chestnut from French oak are also in the mix. The palate is medium bodied with soft acidity and tannins

Enjoy now or for the next 5 years.

Analysis – pH 3.66  I Alc. 14% I TA 5.9 g/l
