Gleeson & Co Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris 2017

Gleeson & Co Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris 2017

The fruit for this wine was grown in the Adelaide Hills near Birdwood. This elevated and heavily sloping vineyard receives good rainfall and cool ripening conditions, making it an ideal vineyard for the growing of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

Growing Conditions

Regular rain events throughout ripening required close monitoring of fruit conditions and early picking. Further regular rain events leading up to veraison kept the vines motoring along and the potential for disease high. The overall result was highish yields, distinctly varietal purity of flavour and elegant structures.

Winemaking – With Pinot Gris’s highly coloured skins picking at night with cool conditions is paramount to minimising the extraction of colour and phenolics. Gentle handling and separation of pressings juice once in the winery follow suit. Clean juice is settled prior to fermentation at low temperatures, with the ferment being stopped early to allow some residual sugar to remain.

Winemaking Notes

Pale straw in colour with the barest hint of copper. The aroma is of pear and green apple, hints of clove and raspberry. This palate is soft with a mild acidity slight sweetness and gentle mouthfeel.
