Regional Selection - Clare Valley Shiraz 2015


Region - Clare Valley, South Australia

Vineyard - The fruit for this wine was sourced from the sub regions of the Clare Valley - Auburn, Armagh, Hill River and Leasingham. Each parcel of fruit was harvested in March in the cool of night to retain the aromatics and delicate flavours.

Growing Conditions - Adequate winter rains followed by a dry budburst meant an early vintage. Low crops and good canopies ensured rapid ripening and delicate flavours. The vineyards maintained good shoot length, canopy coverage and bunch numbers. A great vintage for maintaining delicate fruit and nervy natural acidity. The 2015 vintage will be one that re writes the books as being the shortest and most compact vintage Clare has seen. 

Winemaking - Each parcel of this wine was picked at night after reaching optimum flavour levels and kept separate. Each parcel was cold soaked for between 1 -5 days, warmed up and fermented. Daily pump overs were utilised to maximise the extraction of colour, flavour and tannin from the skins. All parcels were pressed onto French oak for 12 to 14 months. A rigorous tasting and blending of each parcel was undertaken to ensure only the highest quality of wine was included in the final blend of this Regional Shiraz.

Winemakers tasting notes - Amazingly dense and inky in colour, the 2015 Regional Shiraz is visually tantalizing. Aromas are of lifted blackberry fruits, black pitted olives with hints of black pepper and aniseed. The palate is bright, fresh and bursting with flavour of black berry fruits, hints of pepper with subtle cedar and nutmeg. A brilliantly balanced wine with savoury fine tannins and soft acidity. This Shiraz is a beautifully structured wine, rich and abundant in fruit and flavour.
